Asthma and HBOT

Asthma hyperbaric studies

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy offers several helpful effects that make it a promising treatment for asthma and allergies. For one, hyperbaric oxygen reduces swelling and inflammation, which can relieve mild oxygen shortages caused by allergy-related sinus pressure. Early studies also suggest that HBOT lowers levels of IgE, an antibody that triggers immune responses, potentially reducing allergy severity. Oxygen itself acts as a strong anti-inflammatory agent, and using it at higher pressures has shown success in treating asthma. Notably, data from the 1981 International Congress in Moscow reported positive outcomes for asthma treatment with hyperbaric therapy. Over nearly two decades, many MS patients with asthma in our community charity have reported needing fewer inhalers. While patients have not had chest X-rays, they do experience gas trapping in the lungs, which can’t be fully removed by exhaling. For patients with severe colds, we recommend using a decongestant, but the oxygen treatment significantly reduces inflammation
